Yuvraj Singh hits 16.3 to pass the robust yo-yo test
The ageing seniors of the Indian cricket team have been brought into the scanner recently and have faced a fair amount of criticism. The selectors have made it clear that players like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh will be assessed thoroughly based on their performances and fitness. While Mahendra Singh Dhoni have managed to cut every time, the hard-hitting left-hander had faced the axe recently.
The story roots back to India’s tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year when Team India performed a mammoth 9-0 whitewash of the hosts. Selectors MSK Prasad and his gang had taken the selection process to a tougher level by announcing certain fitness criteria’s players need to fulfil for their selection into the team. Players gathered at the National Training Academy in Bengaluru for their selection Tests which turned out to be a nightmare of Yuvraj Singh.
MS Dhoni successfully made it into the ODI squad for the tour while Yuvraj Singh along with Suresh Raina did not qualify the proceedings. It was believed that the two senior players failed to go past the yo-yo test which was the major reason behind their exclusion. Both the batsmen had to go back to the gruelling domestic format to script their way back into the team.
Now, as we come towards the end of the home series against Sri Lanka, the fans are eagerly waiting for the Indian team for their tour of South Africa to be announced. According to reports on Twitter, it has come into news that the destructive Yuvraj Singh, who has been a valiant fighter all his life, has nailed the yo-yo test. The all-rounder recorded a score of 16.3 in the robust fitness Test and had opened the door wide open for himself. Now it is to be seen whether the national selectors give the old horse another bite at the cherry or decides to go with the fresh talents.
