"Even Gilchrist Checked It": Yuvraj Singh On His 2007 T20 World Cup Bat

Yuvraj Singh will be remembered for his contribution in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 World Cup. It was his six sixes in an over that will be etched in the mind of cricket fanatics for generations to come and former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff will regret the verbal exchange which eventually led to onslaught from Yuvraj Singh.

The former India all-rounder disposed everything that a young Stuart Broad had to offer. He hit him for six sixes in an over and stormed to a 12-ball half-century, which remains the fastest in the shortest format of the game.

Even Adam Gilchrist came to check my bat: Yuvraj Singh

It was midnight in India, when Yuvraj Singh made a mockery of Stuart Broad, at the Kingsmead in Durban during a group stage match. He was dismissed for 58 runs off 16 balls, with an imposing strike rate of 362.50, following which his bat became a major point of discussion in the cricketing circuit for fun.

In an interview with Sports Tak, Yuvraj Singh said, even Adam Gilchrist checked his bat, and jokingly asked if it was even legal. Narrating the story further, he said that, the match referee also checked his bat and it was very special for him.

“The Australian coach at that came to me and had asked if there was a fibre behind my bat and asked if it was legal. Has the match referee checked it? So I told him to get it checked. Even Gilchrist asked me like who used to make our bats,” Yuvraj said.

“So match referee had also checked my bat. But honestly, that bat was very special for me. I have never played with a bat like that. That one and the 2011 World Cup bat, there were special,” he added.

Yuvraj Singh brought down the curtains on his career after playing 40 Tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is. He contributed to the fore in ICC tournaments for the national team and will always be knows as one of the finest all-rounders to have donned the Indian jersey.
