The Indian squad for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka in July was announced yesterday and a lot of new faces who have done well in IPL have been included. With the Indian test team in England for the ICC World Test Championship finals and the five-match test series against England, the limited-overs squad was expected to include a lot of youngsters already.

With Rahul Dravid named as the mentor and coach of the young Indian team that will travel to Sri Lanka, it can be certainly said that a lot can be learned from the tour. It will also be an important time for fringe players like Manish Pandey, Sanju Samson, Kuldeep Yadav who have been dropped recently from the main Indian squad. Here are 3 Indian players who can make their debut on the Sri Lanka tour.

Devdutt Padikkal had to be rewarded for his consistency in all the domestic tournaments and the IPL and it was not a surprise that he earned his maiden Indian call up. The elegant left-hander has been in phenomenal form for the last two years and he will be the backup opener in the squad.

However, he has been very impressive this IPL too scoring 195 runs in 6 games and also brought up his maiden IPL century against the Rajasthan Royals. He is a player to watch out for in the future too and the 20-year-old will be keen to get the Indian cap as soon as possible. He is expected to get at least one opportunity in the Indian colors in the Sri Lanka tour.

Varun Chakravarthy:

Varun Chakravarthy has been very unlucky having been named in Indian T20 Squad, but has dealt with injuries and has not been able to pass the fitness test. The 29-year-old has definitely worked hard on that aspect and his hunger to perform more has been seen in the IPL always.

The Indian selectors have named him twice in the squad already and this will be the third chance for him to make his debut for India. The mystery bowler did extremely well in the previous IPL and he also picked up 7 wickets in the 7 IPL games this year. His economy rate has been really good and he will be an X factor in the T20 Worldcup if he does well in the limited-overs leg against Sri Lanka.

Nitish Rana:

Nitish Rana has been a prolific run-scorer in the IPL as well as for Delhi in the domestic tournaments. He had a good Vijay Hazare trophy and he started this IPL on fire with two half-centuries. He seemed to have faded out after the first few games but he is an exceptional talent and deserves his maiden call-up.

Rana scored 201 runs in the 7 games for Kolkata Knight Riders at the top of the order and he can play all the shots in the book. He can bowl some handy off-spin too and being a versatile batsman, he can be used anywhere in the batting order. He is expected to get at least one game in the Indian colors and he should be looking to make complete use of his chance.
