IPL 2022 will witness the addition of two more teams in the tournament. BCCI had earlier informed that IPL 2022 will be a 10-team affair and 2 more franchises will join the cash-rich league next year. With the mega auctions scheduled to be conducted next year ahead of IPL 2022, it will be a great time to introduce two new IPL franchises in the Indian Premier League. In IPL 2011 too, a total of 10 teams participated as two new teams were added in the season.

Cricket has massive popularity in India and therefore businessmen are eager to be part of the league. Many business groups already own IPL franchises and with the introduction of two new teams in the next edition of IPL 2022, many corporates will seek to own an IPL franchise in the next edition. Chadha Group

The Chadha Group is one corporate that will be interested to own a new franchise in IPL 2022. The Chadha group owns the Wave Group, which is a business conglomerate that deals in manufacturing, real estate, education, sports, and entertainment.  The Wave group was established in 1963 as a sugar cane crushing business. It was led by Gurdeep Singh Chadha till 2012. Since 2012, Manpreet Singh Chadha has led the Wave Group.

The Wave Group has various branches in business. Wave cinemas are their multiplex chain. They also have a real estate business and they have built residential and commercial projects like Wave City, Wave City Center, Wave Estate, and Wave One. In the education sector, Chadha Group has developed Genesis Global School, which is situated in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

Chadha group is already involved in the sports business. They won Delhi Waveriders, a field hockey franchise based in Delhi that participates in Hockey India League. Therefore, Chadha Group might be interested in owning an IPL franchise in IPL 2022.

Adani Group

Adani Group is another corporate that might be interested to own an IPL franchise. Adani Group is owned by Gautam Adani and is an Indian multinational conglomerate. The Adani group has diverse businesses including energy, resources, logistics, agribusiness, real estate, financial services, defense, and aerospace. After Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani is the 2nd richest person in India.

Adani Group might be interested in owning an IPL franchise as the group has taken many initiatives in sports. The Adani Group earlier launched the ‘Garv Hai’ program to support athletes in India. The program helped Indian athletes during Rio Olympics 2016. The group also founded Surguja Football Academy in Chhattisgarh. So far, 11 players from the academy have made it to the national Indian football team.

Goenka Group

The Goenka group is also known as the RPSG group. RPSG group is another corporate that might be interested to own an IPL franchise in IPL 2022. RPSG group has earlier owned the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise in IPL 2016 and IPL 2017. The corporate group has many businesses in sectors like power, IT services, media and entertainment, consumer and retail, education, and sports.

The RPSG group earlier owned the ATK football franchise in Indian Super League. Later, the group acquired majority stakes in Mohan Bagan Football Club and now owns the new ISL franchise ATK Mohun Bagan. Moreover, the RPSG group also owns RPSG Mavericks Kolkata, a team that participates in the Ultimate Table Tennis league in India. With so much interest in sports, the RPSG group might be interested in owning a franchise in IPL 2022.

Mohanlal Viswanathan is an Indian actor and businessman who has predominantly worked in Malayalam cinema. Mohanlal is another businessman who might be interested in owning an IPL franchise in IPL 2022. In 2009, Mohanlal tried to bid for an IPL franchise team based in Kochi. They withdrew the bid after they failed to source enough funds.

Mohanlal was the captain of the Kerala Strikers team in the Celebrity Cricket League in 2012 and 2013. Mohanlal has several business ventures like film production and distribution, restaurants, package spices among others. He owns film distribution company Maxlab Cinemas and Entertainments. With his interest in cricket and attempt to own an IPL team in the past, Mohanlal is another corporate that might be interested in owning an IPL franchise in IPL 2022.
