It is very special to win an ICC tournament for any player in their last international appearance and only a few players have had the privilege of achieving that success. It gives a sense of respect for the player from the whole team with some outstanding efforts and the memories will be etched in the player for a long time despite his retirement.
It can also be taken as a tribute to the hard work that has been put in by the player for his country over the years and an ICC trophy is the best possible gift to the player. Here are 4 players who won an ICC trophy in their last international appearance.
4 Players Who Won An ICC Trophy In Their Last International Appearance:
Imran Khan:
Imran Khan is one of the greatest all-rounders of all time and also one of the best players to have played from his nation. Imran Khan captained the Pakistan team to victory in the 1992 Worldcup which was the last international appearance for him against England.
Imran Khan top-scored for Pakistan in the final coming in at three with a well-made 72 and took his team to a fighting score of 249 for the loss of 6 wickets. He also bowled 6.2 overs conceding 43 runs and took the final wicket of Richard Illingworth which sealed the trophy for Pakistan.
Glenn Mcgrath:
Mcgrath played his last international game for the Aussies in the 2007 World Cup win against Sri Lanka and he bowled seven overs in the game picking up one wicket of Russell Arnold and gave away just 31 runs. His seam movement trapped even a lot of the best batsmen in the world.
Michael Clarke:
In a low-scoring chase in the final, the skipper Michael Clarke formed an excellent partnership alongside Steve Smith for the third wicket, and Clarke top-scored with 74 runs off 72 balls. Clarke had an excellent record as a captain as well as a batsman for the Aussies.
BJ Watling:
The New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman is the latest addition to the list with him winning the ICC World Test Championship title in the final against India. Watling had announced that this game would be the last international match for him and it had certainly been a wonderful journey for him.
Watling holds the record for the most number of dismissals by a New Zealand wicketkeeper in tests and he was always a proper batsman who had an excellent technique. Watling was dismissed for just one run by a terrific delivery from Mohammad Shami in the first innings, and he did not bat in the second innings.
