The veteran all-rounder returned to Mumbai Indians through a trade ahead of the 2024 season and took over as captain from Rohit Sharma. The five-time IPL champions finished at the bottom that year before reaching Qualifier 2 in 2025. Mumbai then struggled again in 2026 and ended the season in ninth place.

The timing of the post has caught the attention of fans, with reports linking Pandya with a possible trade ahead of IPL 2027. Mumbai Indians have not confirmed any trade involving the 33-year-old, but the social media post has added to the ongoing speculation.
Pandya has remained at the centre of trade discussions since Mumbai Indians finished ninth in IPL 2026. The franchise won only four of its 14 matches under his captaincy, while Pandya also endured a difficult season with both bat and ball.
Hardik Pandya Endures Difficult IPL 2026 Campaign
Hardik Pandya played only 10 matches for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026 after missing four games due to illness and injury. He scored 206 runs at an average of 22.88 and a strike rate of 138.25, with 40 as his highest score.
Pandya did not score a half-century during the campaign and struggled to provide consistent runs in the middle order. His limited bowling contribution also affected Mumbai's team balance, as he managed only four wickets in the tournament.
The all-rounder averaged 64.75 with the ball and conceded runs at an economy rate of 11.43. His struggles came as Mumbai Indians finished with four wins and 10 defeats, missing the playoffs after reaching Qualifier 2 in the previous season.
Hardik Pandya's IPL Career and Captaincy Record
The all-rounder made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2015 and became an important part of their successful side. He played for MI until 2021 before joining the newly formed Gujarat Titans ahead of the 2022 season and taking charge as their captain.
Pandya led Gujarat Titans to the IPL title in their debut season in 2022. He then guided the franchise to another final in 2023 before returning to Mumbai Indians through a trade ahead of the 2024 season. MI appointed him captain, replacing Rohit Sharma.
Across 162 IPL matches, Pandya has scored 2,955 runs at an average of 27.88 and a strike rate of 146.29. He has also taken 82 wickets at an average of 33.55 and an economy rate of 9.36. As captain, he has won 36 of 61 matches and lost 25.
