India and New Zealand are set to face each other in the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2021 next month. Gill gave great support to Rohit Sharma as an opener during Australia and England series. During the three Tests he played against Australia, Gill smashed two crucial knocks of 50 and 91.

The right-handed batsman was later selected for the England Test series, where he managed to hit 1 fifty. In 7 Test matches so far, Shubman Gill has scored 378 runs. He is earning accolades as an opener in Tests. After the ICC World Test Championship final, selectors might look at Shubman Gill as a good opener for India in Tests.  Therefore, he might become a regular member of the Test team.
