The ICC World Test Championship final is just a week away. India and New Zealand face off in the final to be played from June 18-22. Ahead of final New Zealand are playing a two-Test match series against England, The second Test is currently underway in Edgbaston after the first Test ended in a draw. Regular Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson has been ruled out of the second Test while Tom Latham has replaced him as the skipper of the side.

Meanwhile, in this article w take a look at most double tons in the World Test Championship by particular teams. Among the top Test-playing nations who played in the championship South Africa, Bangladesh and Pakistan did not have any of their batsman scoring double tons.

West Indies-1

Kyle Mayers scored the only double hundred for Windies in the championship. He scored 210 210 runs to help the West Indies cricket team chase a mammoth 395-run target in the fourth innings. The reason why the knock was special because it was scored in the fourth innings of a Test match and also in sub-continental conditions. Mayer’s knock is regarded as one of the best in the championship.

Sri Lanka- 1

Dimuth Karunaratne & Dhananjaya De Silva

Sri Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne scored the only double ton by a Lankan batsman in the tournament. He scored 244 and added 345 runs for the fourth wickets against Bangladesh at Pallakele. Sri Lanka scored 648/8d in response to Bangladesh’s first innings score of 541/7. The match ultimately ended in a draw as Karunatarne was awarded the Man of The Match Award.

New Zealand- 2

Kane Williamson scored both the double ton for New Zealand in the World Test Championship, The first one (251) was against West Indies at Hamilton which ended in a draw for the side. Williamson was awarded the Man of the Match for his knock

The second one was against Pakistan at Christchurch earlier this year which too ended with the Kiwis winning the Test match by an innings and 176 runs after bowling out Pakitan for 297 and 186. Williamson was again awarded the Man of the Match for his knock.

England- 3

Two of England’s three double tons in the WTC were scored by skipper Joe Root. The first was against New Zealand in Hamilton where he scored 226. His knock powered England to 476 after the Kiwis scored 375 in the first innings. The Kiwis scored 241/2 and the game ended in a draw on day five.

The second double hundred for Root came against India in the first Test in Chennai. His 228 powered England to a win in the first Test and take the lead in the four-match series. India ultimately won the series 3-1 to make it to the World Test Championship final.

Zak Crawley (267) scored the other double hundred against Pakistan at Pallekele. His knock came in a drawn cause in Southampton.

Australia- 3

Steve Smith scored 211 at Old Trafford during Ashes 2019. It is the first of three double tons scored by Aussie batsmen in the championship. Australia won that game by 185 runs. Smith scored 1341 runs in the championship.

Marnus Labuschagne scored 215 against New Zealand in Sydney and his knock turned out to be a match-winning one. Australia won the game by 279 runs. David Warner is the other cricketer to score a doubleton. He scored 335 against Pakistan in Adelaide as the Aussies won the game by an innings and 48 runs.

India- 4

For India, Mayank Agarwal (2)Rohit Sharma (1), and Virat Kohli (1) scored a double to each. Each of those tons ended in a winning cause. India won by 203 runs against South Africa when Mayank scored 215. India also won the Pink-Ball test when Mayank scored 243 against Bangladesh in Kolkata.

Rohit Sharma scored 212 against South Africa in Ranchi which India won by an innings and 202 runs. India also won the game by an innings and 137 runs when Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 254* against South Africa in Mumbai.
