Sunrisers Hyderabad might not have the services of Kane Williamson when the IPL resumes as his international commitments will be the priority and this opens up another dilemma in the Sunrisers squad. The sacking of David Warner will certainly haunt them if Kane Williamson isn’t available and they will have to look for other options.

Their campaign in IPL 2021 has not gone well so far and they have been struggling to find any momentum. It is going to be an uphill task from here on if they have to make it to the playoffs but there isn’t any doubt of their capability. Here are 3 players who can lead Sunrisers Hyderabad in place of Kane Williamson.

3 Players Who Can Lead SRH In Place Of Kane Williamson:

Jonny Bairstow:

Jonny Bairstow will be the first priority as he has been brilliant so far for the Sunrisers Hyderabad and handing him the captaincy might not be a bad option. The English wicket-keeper batsman has been striking the ball tremendously well and he finished as the top scorer for the franchise this season with 248 runs in 7 games.

Sunrisers did drop Warner for a game and they opened with Bairstow which showed their faith in the English batsman and he is likely to be retained ahead of Kane Williamson if the mega auction takes place. Bairstow still has a long way to go and he has already established himself as an important player in the Sunrisers Hyderabad side. The balance of the side has always put his spot in the playing XI under question mark and captaincy might just change it around.

Rashid Khan:

Rashid Khan is one of the certainty in the playing eleven for the Sunrisers Hyderabad and he should be an option for the captaincy role too. Rashid Khan has been serving as the vice-captain of the Afghanistan national side in the T20 format and he is pipped to be the future skipper for Afghanistan in all the formats.

Rashid Khan was the stand-out bowler for the Sunrisers Hyderabad this season and he picked up 10 wickets in 7 games. He lacked support from the other bowlers and was the only trump card for the Sunrisers skipper to use in the bowling department. IPL resuming in September might just make things different for them without Kane Williamson and opting for Rashid Khan should be in their plans.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar:

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been the vice-captain of the side for a long time now and he had captained the franchise in the past in 2016 and 2017. He is an important part of the team and has been the leader of the Sunrisers bowling attack. He hasn’t been at his best form in the IPL 2021 but he can make the inroads for them.

Bhuvneshwar picked up just 3 wickets in the 5 games and he missed out on a couple of games due to injury concerns. He is one of the best limited-overs bowlers when he starts to get it right and he is a death-over specialist in T20 cricket. He does have a lot of variations and is a match-winner with the ball. Handing him the captaincy in place of Kane Williamson might just boost his confidence and get the best out of him.
