Mumbai Indians is the most successful franchise in the Indian Premier League. The Rohit Sharma-led franchise has won the IPL titles record 5 times- most by any team. Mumbai Indians comprise some powerful overseas players and domestic players in the squad, which helps them to keep a strong set of players in the playing XI.

In IPL 2022, a new rule can come into existence that will allow 5 overseas players in the playing XI. The demand of extending overseas players’ limit to 5 has been made to BCCI by many IPL franchises. If the rule comes into effect, every team will be able to pick 5 overseas players in the playing XI.

Currently, only 4 overseas players are allowed in a team in a match. Here we look at Mumbai Indians’ predicted playing XI is 5 overseas players are allowed in IPL.

Rohit Sharma is the most successful captain in IPL so far and Mumbai Indians playing XI is incomplete without him. He should be the first pick in the playing XI of Mumbai Indians and lead the team. Rohit Sharma is the 4th highest run-scorer in IPL with 5480 runs in 202 innings.

The right-handed batsman Sharma has smashed 40 half-centuries and 1 century in the tournament so far. He is one of the best openers in international cricket and hence should also open the innings for Mumbai Indians.

Quinton de Kock

Quinton de Kock should be the 1st overseas player for Mumbai Indians. The wicketkeeper-batsman is a powerful hitter who is also the opener for South Africa. For wicketkeepers, Kock is the best choice for Mumbai Indians. So far, the left-handed batsman has played 72 matches in IPL and smashed 2114 runs at an average of 35+. He has also smashed 1 century and 15 half-centuries at a strike rate of 132+. In IPL 2021, he scored 155 runs in 6 matches along with an unbeaten fifty.

Chris Lynn

Chris Lynn is a hard-hitter but has not managed to make his way into the playing XI for most of the time in Mumbai Indians. He is part of Mumbai Indians since IPL 2020. If the overseas players’ limit is increased to 5, Chris Lynn will be a good option for the overseas player. The Australian batsman Lynn has piled up 1329 runs in 42 matches at a strike rate of 140+. In IPL 2019, he scored 405 runs for KKR in 13 games. In IPL 2018, he smashed 491 runs in 16 games. For Mumbai Indians, Lynn has played only 1 match in IPL 2021, in which he hit 49 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav is a stout middle-order batsman. In 108 matches in IPL so far, the right-handed batsman Suryakumar has scored 2197 runs at an average of 29.68. He has hit 12 fifties and has a batting strike rate of 135+. In IPL 2021, he scored 173 runs in 7 matches at a strike rate of 144+. He also hit 1 fifty in the tournament. Suryakumar Yadav was fabulous last season, smashing 480 runs in 16 matches along with 4 half-centuries.

Kieron Pollard

Kieron Pollard should be the 3rd overseas player that Mumbai Indians should induct into the squad. Kieron Pollard has been the backbone of Mumbai Indians’ lower middle-order in IPL. Being an all-rounder, Pollard is a big advantage for the team. Pollard has smashed 3191 runs at a strike rate of 150+ in 154 innings. This also includes 16 half-centuries. He has also picked 63 wickets in 171 matches. In IPL 2021, he played a heroic knock of unbeaten 84 runs against Chennai Super Kings to chase Mumbai Indians’ highest-ever target of 219.

Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya is one of the core members of Mumbai Indians. Hardik Pandya is a prominent all-rounder, although he did not bowl for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021 due to his back issues. The right-handed batsman has scored 1401 runs in 80 matches in IPL. With a strike rate of 157+, Pandya is one of the most powerful finishers in IPL. Being a medium-arm pacer, he has also picked 42 wickets.

Krunal Pandya

Krunal Pandya is a bowling all-rounder. Like his brother Hardik Pandya, Krunal has also spent a lot of time with Mumbai Indians team. In 67 innings, Krunal Pandya has scored 1100 runs at a high strike rate of 141+. Being a left-arm spinner, he has scalped 49 wickets at an economy of 7.28. Krunal’s addition to the playing XI gives depth to Mumbai Indians’ batting.

Jasprit Bumrah is one of the best pacers in international cricket. With his pace attack and variations, he has played a major role in Mumbai Indians’ journey to lift 5 trophies. Bumrah has always emerged crucial with his ability to find breakthroughs and low economy while bowling. In 99 matches so far, the right-arm pacer has scalped 115 wickets at an economy of 7.39.

Trent Boult

Trent Boult is the 4th overseas player that Mumbai Indians should induct in the playing XI. In IPL 2020, Trent Boult moved to Mumbai Indians and gained the limelight. She picked 25 wickets in 15 matches. In IPL 2021, he picked 8 wickets in 7 matches. Overall, the left-arm pacer Boult has an impressive record in IPL with 71 wickets in 55 matches.

Nathan Coulter-Nile

Nathan Coulter-Nile should be the 5th overseas pacer in Mumbai Indians. His addition will strengthen the pace attack of Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians released the Australian pacer ahead of IPL 2021 but bought him back during IPL 2021 auction. In 34 matches in IPL, Nile has scalped 41 wickets at an economy of 7.75. In IPL 2021, he played only 1 game in which he remained wicketless.

Rahul Chahar

For the spin bowler, Mumbai Indians should induct Rahul Chahar into the team. Rahul Chahar was spectacular in IPL 2021, picking 11 wickets in 7 matches at an economy of 7.21. He had a consistent bowling show in IPL 2019 and IPL 2020. Last season in IPL 2020, he picked 15 wickets in 15 matches. In IPL 2019, he scalped 13 wickets in 13 games. Overall, Rahul Chahar has 41 wickets in his pockets after playing 38 matches in the Indian Premier League.
