Delhi Capitals have played all 14 editions of the Indian Premier League. The franchise was earlier known as Delhi Daredevils but changed its name to Delhi Capitals in IPL 2019. In the 14 editions so far, Dehli Capitals have never managed to win an IPL title. In IPL 2020, they lost to Mumbai Indians in the final and ended as the runners-up. So far, Delhi Capitals have made it to the playoffs in 5 editions out of 14.
So far in 14 editions, 13 players have led the franchise. Popular players who have lead Delhi Capitals in the past are Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Dinesh Karthik, Mahela Jayawardene, David Warner, and Zaheer Khan. Since IPL 2018, Shreyas Iyer has donned the role of captain for the franchise.

IPL 2008

In the debut season of IPL 2008, Delhi Capitals showed a decent performance and entered the playoffs. They finished on the 4th spot with 7 victories and 7 defeats in 15 games. One match ended with no result. The Virender Sehwag-led side lost to Rajasthan Royals in the semi-final. DC scored 2118 runs in the season. Gautam Gambhir was their highest run-scorer with 534 runs in 14 matches, followed by Virender Sehwag with 406 runs in 14 matches.
IPL 2009

In IPL 2009, Dehli Capitals showcased an astonishing performance by topping the points table after the group stage. However, they lost in the semi-final to Deccan Chargers which ended their journey in the tournament. The Virender Sehwag-led side played 15 matches, winning 10 and losing 5. The team scored 2131 runs in the season. AB de Villiers was Delhi Capitals’ highest run-scorer with 465 runs in 13 innings.
IPL 2010

In IPL 2010, Delhi Capitals failed to qualify for playoffs after finishing on the 5th spot in the points table after the conclusion of the group stage. This time, the team was led by Gautam Gambhir. They won 7 matches and lost 7 out of 14. The franchise scored 2154 runs in the tournament. Virender Sehwag was DC’s highest run-scorer with 356 runs in 14 innings.
IPL 2011

In IPL 2011, the franchise was again led by Virender Sehwag. The team suffered their worst show in IPL, finishing on the 10th spot out of 10 teams in the points table. Out of 14 matches, they lost 9 games and won just 4 as 1 game ended with no result. They accounted for 2031 runs in the season with Virender Sehwag emerging as the highest run-getter with 424 runs in 11 matches.
IPL 2012

In the 5th edition of IPL in 2012, Delhi Capitals was again led by Virender Sehwag. This time, the team showed a great comeback by topping the points table after the group stage. However, DC lost back-to-back matches to Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings in the playoffs, losing the spot in the final. In all, they played 18 matches, out of which they won 11 and lost 7. The team scored 2645 runs in the season. Virender Sehwag was once again the highest run-getter for the team, with 495 runs in 16 innings.
IPL 2013

In IPL 2013, Delhi Capitals witnessed another poor show after finishing at the last 9th spot in the points table. DC was led by Mahela Jayawardene. Out of 16 matches, they won just 3 matches and lost 13. DC scored 2234 runs in the season. David Warner ended as the highest run-scorer for the team with 410 runs in 16 innings.
IPL 2014

In IPL 2014, Delhi Capitals again finished on the last spot out of 8 teams. This time, the franchise was led by Kevin Pietersen. The team played 14 games, out of which they won just 2 games and lost 12. The team scored 2081 runs in the season. JP Duminy was the team’s highest run-getter with 410 runs in 14 matches.

In IPL 2015, the team was led by JP Duminy. However, the team’s fate did not change much from the previous season and they finished on the 7th spot this time. DC played 14 matches, out of which they won 5 and lost 8. They scored 1981 runs in the season. Shreyas Iyer was the team’s highest run-scorer with 439 runs in 14 matches. JP Duminy followed him with 414 runs in 13 innings.
IPL 2016

The team was again led by JP Duminy in the 2016 season. However, they again failed to qualify for playoffs and finished on the 6th spot in the points table. In 14 matches, they won 7 matches and lost 7. The team scored 2104 runs in the season. Quinton de Kock was the team’s highest run-scorer with 445 runs in 13 innings.
IPL 2017

In IPL 2017, the captainship was handed over to former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan. This time too, the team finished on the 6th spot and failed to enter the playoffs. Out of 14 games, the Zaheer Khan-led side won 6 and lost 8 games. DC scored 2219 runs in the tournament. Sanju Samson was the team’s highest run-scorer with 386 runs in 14 innings while Rishabh Pant scored 366 runs.
IPL 2018

IPL 2018 was another poor season for the franchise. They were led by Gautam Gambhir at the start who left the captainship midway due to the team’s consecutive losses. Shreyas Iyer led the team for the rest of the season. Delhi Capitals managed just 5 victories in 14 matches and finished on the last 8th spot. They scored 2343 runs in the season. Rishabh Pant scored 684 runs in 14 games and emerged as a star batsman for the team by finishing as 2nd highest run-scorer in the tournament. Pant smashed 5 half-centuries and 1 century in IPL 2018.
IPL 2019

In IPL 2019, the team arrived in the tournament with the new name. After a continuous poor show in the last 6 editions, Delhi Capitals showed a marvelous performance this time by reaching the playoffs. They held the 3rd spot in the points table after the group stage. However, they lost to Chennai Super Kings in the Qualifier 2 match of playoffs, which ended their journey in the tournament. The Shreyas Iyer-led side smashed 2519 runs in the season. Shikhar Dhawan was the team’s highest run-scorer with 521 runs in 16 innings.
IPL 2020

In IPL 2020, the team showed their best ever performance in the tournament. It was the first time that Delhi Capitals managed to reach the final. They lost the final to Mumbai Indians and finished as the runners-up. Out of 17 matches, they won 9 and lost 8. DC smashed most runs in the tournament, piling up 2777 runs in the season. For the 2nd consecutive time, Shikhar Dhawan ended as the highest run-scorer for the team with 618 runs in 17 innings. He was followed by Shreyas Iyer, with 519 runs in 17 innings as well.
IPL 2021

In IPL 2021, Delhi Capitals were led by Rishabh Pant as their regular skipper Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the tournament due to injury. Before the tournament got suspended, DC held the top spot in the points table with 6 wins in 8 games while losing 2 matches. Delhi Capitals scored 1325 runs in the season, most than any other team. Shikhar Dhawan was the leading run-scorer of the tournament as well as DC with 380 runs in 8 matches.
