India are coming off a defeat in the ICC World Test Championship finals against New Zealand and they will now have a tough task on their hands against England in the five-match-test series. India hasn’t won a series in England for 14 years and this will be the best possible squad for the tour of England.

The Indian batsmen have always struggled against the moving ball and this will be a big test again for them considering that the batsmen have a fair amount of experience in these conditions. With a note on that, here are the Test Batting Average Of Current Indian Players In England.

The Indian opener Shubman Gill has played just two innings in England so far and has scores of 28 and 8 against New Zealand in the finals. Gill averages 18 with the bat in one test in England and the right-hander has been ruled out of the five-match test series against England owing to an injury he picked up recently.

The Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is a handy batsman down the order and he has always had the technique to score runs in tough conditions. Ashwin’s batting average in England has been 23.72 which is nearly close to the other top-order batsman of India. He scored 22 and 7 in the two innings against New Zealand and he has had immense experience in England for the last three tours in 2011, 2014, and 2018.

Rohit Sharma:

The Indian opener Rohit Sharma is going to be a key factor for India in the Test series against England and so far, he has played just one test as an opener in England which was the finals of the World Test Championships. He did have starts in both innings with 34 and 30 in the two innings while his overall career average in England is just 24.50 which he will have to better in the coming days.

Rishabh Pant:

Rishabh Pant has become a star for India in all the formats and the expectations around him have been really high in the last six months with the level of performances he has put in.

Pant’s overall career average for a wicketkeeper-batsman is excellent with 43.8 but it drops to 25.87 in England which is going to be a worry for India. His famous century in the final test of the last tour of England will be remembered and he will look to take some confidence out of it.

Cheteshwar Pujara:

Cheteshwar Pujara still has an important part to play for India in tests and his patience can always make the bowlers tired. But his average dips to 27.52 which is pretty low compared to his average of 46.1 in tests overall. Pujara is an excellent prospect in home conditions but has failed to put up some important contributions in England particularly and he needs to rectify it through this series.

Ravindra Jadeja:

Ravindra Jadeja has been in prime form with the bat in tests in the last two to three years and his contributions down the order have very vital for India. Jadeja has done well in English conditions as his overall average is 35.4 while his average in England is 27.90 which is not far away. He has shown that he has the technique to counter any conditions despite coming lower down the order.

Hanuma Vihari:

Hanuma Vihari has an excellent technique that can be used while opening the batting as well as in the middle order. He has scored loads of runs in domestic cricket and the 27-year-old hasn’t done badly in English conditions with an average of 28 comparing to his overall average of 32.8. He scored a valiant half-century in the India tour of England 2018, and it might not be a surprise if he replaces Shubman Gill at the top of the order.

Ajinkya Rahane:

Ajinkya Rahane was once, the savior of India in overseas conditions and he still averages more in away conditions than home conditions which is one of the highlights of his game. Rahane’s average drops to 29.52 in England comparing his overall average of 41.1 but the problem is he has been largely inconsistent in the last few years and it is time up for the Indian vice-captain to play a lot more impactful knocks.

KL Rahul:

KL Rahul was dropped from the Indian test team owing to some poor form and he came back into the test team after some excellent consistent performances in the limited-overs format. His 149 in England in the previous tour of 2018 was an extraordinary knock in the circumstances and it has popped up his average to 29.90 in England comparing to his overall average of 34.6.

Virat Kohli:

Virat Kohli had a disastrous tour of England in 2014, and it was the only time, Kohli went through a rough patch in international cricket with a string of low scores. However, he made up for it splendid performances in 2018, where he finished as India’s highest run-scorer and he averages 35.63 in England which is the highest among the current Indian batsmen,
