West Indies, after the second day’s play was 288/4 still trailing by 219 runs. The second Test match saw a better performance from the England batters after a drawn first Test in Antigua.
Meanwhile, former England cricketer Nick Compton has pointed out a big concern regarding the current England Test team. In a conversation with Sy Sports, Nick Compotin touched upon this point and said that the England Test team is going through a change in their cricket culture which would take some time.
England Trying To Instill New Culture Post Ashes – Nick Compton
“Yeah, potentially. It has probably been the case for a while now,” said Compton on being asked if England are “in danger of having too much reliance” on Stokes and Root.
“England are trying to instill a new culture post the Ashes. They are trying to create new habits. They’ve scored three 300s in a row; in terms of batting, they’ve taken that opportunity” Comtpn further added.
He went into add that this Windies attack is not the most potent at the moment which allowed Root and Stokes to score the runs. They added a 129-run stand for the fourth wicket and got to their respective centuries. Stokes, in particular, scored a brisk century off just 128 deliveries.
Ben Stokes – Joe Root Add 129-Run Stand For England
“Okay, let’s be honest, the West Indies are not the most penetrating bowling attack but it takes time to build these new habits. It’s good that these guys like Joe Root are continuing to show their excellence. Joe is just a fantastic player in all conditions. He leads from the front. Yes, we do need the players to come through and they will come through” said Compton.
The side are in a favourable position in the Test match with still three days of cricket left to be played. The third Test between both sides starts from March 24 In Grenada.
