Aakash Chopra Questions Bangladesh Captain Litton Das For Calling Ish Sodhi Back

Former Indian batter and recent commentator Aakash Chopra questioned Bangladesh captain Litton Das for calling back New Zealand batter Ish Sodhi after he was run out at the non-striker’s end for leaving the crease too early.

During the 2nd ODI match between Bangladesh and New Zealand, an incident occurred when New Zealand batter Ish Sodhi left the non-striker’s crease early and Hasan Mahmud ran out Ish Sodhi and was given out by the umpire. Later after coming back Ish Sodhi exchanged a warm hug.

After this incident occurred, Bangladesh skipper Litton Das talked with his teammates and called Ish Sodhi back. This has again created a debate on the dismissal of the batsman, as it was according to the Spirit of the Game or not.

Former Indian cricketer and commentator criticized Bangladesh skipper Littn Das for calling back Ish Sodhi. While discussing in his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra his views on that saying the dismissial was within the rules of the game, so there was no question of invoking the spirit of cricket.

Aakash Chopra said, “I have got a problem. I have two issues – one, why are you moving out of the crease? Also, to the western world, who always talk about spirit of cricket, trying driving at the speed of 120 kmph in an area where the limit is 60 kmph and then say that you made a mistake. The laws are so strict that even if you do something by mistake, you are fined for it. So please don’t teach us. Look at yourself in the mirror first”.

“The problem is that the fielding team’s captain calls the player back thinking people will not feel good. Who will not feel good? What are you trying to prove? Destigmatize this. What is within the laws cannot be against the spirit of the game. As simple as that,” Aakash Chopra added, concluded his thoughts on the matter.

This incident took place when Sodhi was batting on 17. Sodhi also bowled brilliantly taking 6 for 39 and helped Kiwis beat Bangladesh by 86 runs.
