Former Sri Lanka cricketer Farveez Maharoof has picked young batter Shubman Gill as the player to watch out for in the ICC World Cup 2023. He believes that opener is taking the baton from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Shubman Gill has developed himself into the mainstay of the India Cricket Team in all three formats in such a short span of time. He has set the world cricket on fire with his staggering performances ever since he made his debut for India. Despite the presence of big names in the squad, he has made sure that people talk about him.
Shubman Gill is touted as the ‘Prince of Cricket’, which depicts his caliber as a batter. Going into the ICC World Cup 2023, he will be one of the important players for India. His rich vein of form surely can make a difference in the mega event and if he fires, Men In Blue won’t be far from winning the title.
Shubman Gill recently played in the Asia Cup 2023 for India. He set the stage on fire and was the leading run-getter in the tournament. He was the only batter to amass over 300 runs as he smashed two fifties and one century in the 6 games that he played throughout the tournament.
If this was not enough, Shubman Gill had a staggering outing in the series against Australia. The batter played two games and batted magnificently. He scored a half-century in the first game and then followed it with a ton in the second game. The batter was named Player of the Series as well for his heroics.

Farveez Maharoof said that every country has its own star and for India, it’s Shubman Gill. He believes that it’ll be a great opportunity for a young player like him as he has been doing well for the last few years. Speaking to ANI, he explained:
“It is going to be a very interesting World Cup. It’s going to be very competitive. Some teams are in really good forms and good combinations. Every country has their own star. Shubman Gill has been scoring a lot of runs. It will be a perfect opportunity for a young player like him who has been doing really well for India for the past two to three years.”
Farveez Maharoof further hailed Shubman Gill, saying that he’s taking the baton from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. He explained:
“It will be a breakthrough tournament as he is taking the baton from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who have done a wonderful job for India for such a long time. For me, Shubman Gill will be someone to look out for.”
