The International Cricket Council's (ICC) rankings for the Men's T20I updates across batters, bowlers, and all-rounders have been reshuffled as England handed India a massive defeat at Trent Bridge in the third match of the ongoing bilateral T20I series.
Because of the 125-run thumping win over the current T20 World Cup winners, multiple England cricketers have gained in their individual rankings. It is worth mentioning that the 125-run defeat is the biggest ever defeat in this format for the Men in Blue. Josh Tongue, Jofra Archer, Sam Curran, Jacob Bethell and Adil Rashid played a crucial role in taking the visitors to the floor.
Adil Rashid and Josh Tongue were impressive with their bowlings
According to the latest rankings of ICC for the Men's T20I format for bowlers, Josh Tongue, who claimed 4 wickets in the second match, sits in the 301st equal spot, while his teammate, Adil Rashid, whose bowling figures were 2/14 in the previous fixture, helped him enter the top three places in the T20I bowling rankings, gaining one spot.
Will Jacks, who is a batting all-rounder but made most of the impact with the ball against India, is among the gainers in the rankings. The emerging English all-rounder has gained six spots in the T20I All-Rounder Rankings in the process to break into the Top 10 at No.7.
Jacob Bethell and Sam Curran are also amongst the gainers in the ICC Men's T20I rankings
There are two other Englishmen who have taken a few steps ahead in the rankings, Jacob Bethell and Sam Curran. Bethell and Curran both were equally impressive with bat and ball, leaving their marks in the second and third matches of the series after a rain-washed opening game of the contest.
In the second game, Bethell was firing on all cylinders against the Indian bowlers, scoring 76* off 46 to secure a four-wicket win. With the win at Trent Bridge, the hosts have taken a 2-0 defeat win two more matches to be played in the series, and Jacob Bethell gained seven spots in the ICC Men's T20I Batting Rankings and is into the top ten places at No.8, as the ICC informs on the official website on July 8.
Sam Curran impressively progressed in all three rankings because of his effective bowling and batting in the third match of the series. As per ICC’s official release, “Sam Curran, who picked 3/33 in the second game and smashed 41* in England's thumping win in the third, gained 12 places in the batting rankings to sit at 108, and an equal number of spots to make it to 71st place in the bowling rankings. His efforts saw him take an equal 13th place in the all-rounder rankings, picking up by six places.”
Ishan Kishan remains at No.1
Despite a poor display of batting performance for most of the ongoing UK tour, Ishan Kishan remains at No.1 for the T20I Men’s batters’ rankings and Abhishek Sharma at second because of their past heroics.
Newly appointed T20I captain of the team, Shreyas Iyer, who is also not massively impressive with his batting work, is among the gainers in the rankings. A 68-run knock in the first and 37 in the second game helped him gain 425 spots, and he now sits at equal 93rd in the batting rankings.
