ICC World Cup 2023: "I’m Absolutely Flabbergasted" - Kevin Pietersen On Exclusion Of Harry Brook From WC Squad

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen was disappointed with the exclusion of young Harry Brook from the squad for the ICC World Cup 2023. He said that he’s flabbergasted with his omission because the right-hander is a quality player.
England recently named their provisional squad for the ICC World Cup 2023 and it saw Ben Stokes making a U-turn and returning to the team for the event. The all-rounder being included in the team was not good news for Harry Brook as he was dropped from the team despite being a sure-shot pick for the team.
Harry Brook has been one of the exciting talents and was expected to make it into the team because of what he has done in international cricket. The right-hander has performed magnificently on the big stages and even was part of England’s T20 World Cup winning team in 2022.
Harry Brook has played just three ODIs so far and has smashed one half-century as well. Also, in the pinnacle of the game, Test cricket, he averages over 60 and has played some blistering knocks. With what he has done across the World for England, he could’ve been a vital cog in the team.
Kevin Pietersen recalled how he was amazed by Harry Brook after he first saw him. He pointed out how the batter impressed him with his 360-degree game and he’s unhappy with Brook not making it into the World Cup squad. Speaking during the coverage of Hundred, he explained:
“I saw this guy in Headingley about two years ago when this tournament took off, and I immediately saw a superstar. I saw somebody who was playing 360, who started to hit balls over extra cover, and the same ball hit them over midwicket.
I’m absolutely flabbergasted that he cannot make England’s World Cup squad because he is pure quality. I suppose that’s not sitting on a fence, that’s giving an opinion. I am absolutely flabbergasted that he cannot make England’s World Cup squad.”
ICC World Cup 2023: Obviously it’s disappointing, but I can’t do anything about it – Harry Brook on WC snub
Harry Brook also talked about his snub from the England team for the ICC World Cup 2023. He said that it was disappointing but he cannot do anything about it.
“Obviously it’s disappointing, but I can’t do anything about it now, you’ve just got to move on. I’m trying not to think about it anymore. I’ve not had much conversation with (coach) Matthew (Mott) or (captain) Jos (Buttler). They said with Stokesy coming back I was probably going to miss out this time. He (Stokes) is one of the best players to ever play cricket, so I can’t really complain, can I?”
Ahead of the ICC World Cup, England will be playing four-match ODI series against New Zealand set to be played from 8th September to 15th September.
