The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) convened a special meeting on Thursday to discuss the team’s preparations for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. Former Pakistan captain and chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq was notably absent from a review meeting held by the PCB.
The review meeting was held in the presence of PCB management committee Zaka Ashraf, captain Babar Azam, head coach Grant Bradburn, Chief Operating Officer Salman Nasser, Head of International Cricket Usman Wahla, and former skipper Misbah ul Haq.
Inzamam-ul-Haq was part of a high-profile Cricket Technical Committee (CTC), which will be headed by Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq. Inzamam skipping the meeting raised several eyebrows, and Mohammad Hafeez’s resignation added fuel to the fire.
Inzamam-ul-Haq Didn’t Agree With The Move – Reports
According to PTI, Inzamam-ul-Haq chose to skip the meeting because he disagreed with the decision to hold a review meeting at this time. He felt that the team should be encouraged and supported rather than facing an inquiry that showed a lack of trust in their abilities.
“Inzamam is a very strong headed person and he didn’t agree with the move by Chairman Zaka Ashraf to call such a review meeting and make Babar and Bradburn face uncomfortable questions by Misbah, Hafeez and other board officials,” the source said.
“Inzamam having been a former captain and top cricketer himself, made it clear he was not happy with the review process as this was the time to encourage and boost the team instead of putting them through an inquisition and showing distrust in their abilities.”
However, Inzamam attended the press conference on Friday to announce Pakistan’s 15-member squad for the upcoming World Cup, which is just a few days away. Hassan Ali returned to the squad after Naseem Shah was ruled out of the tournament due to injury.
Pakistan Squad: Babar Azam (C), Shadab Khan (VC), Fakhar Zaman, Imam ul Haq, Abdullah Shafique, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Agha Salman, Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Usama Mir, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Hassan Ali, and Mohammad Wasim Jr.
