Former England cricketer Dominic Cork believes Team India are a full package after winning the Asia Cup. The Men in Blue proved their World Cup credentials by delivering a solid performance in the recently concluded continental championship.
After receiving impressive wins over Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4 stage, the Rohit Sharma-led side thrashed the Islanders by 10 wickets in the final. Riding on Mohammed Siraj’s career-best spell of 6 for 21, India bowled out Sri Lanka for a record total of 50 runs and chased it down in just 6.1 overs. India looked impressive with both bat and ball during the competition as most of their players came up with fine displays.
And with India looking in good form ahead of the all-important ICC World Cup 2023, Dominic Cork has heaped praise on the team. He highlighted India’s dominant performance against Sri Lanka in the final in Colombo and called it extraordinary.
“We watch a lot of India and Pakistan, you know, we all do. The PSL, so we know what Pakistan cricket is like and how strong that is. But being around, you know, the Bangladesh team, the Sri Lankan team, the Afghanistan team.
“It was a really good tournament and obviously, India won it in the end. Quite comprehensively, bowling Sri Lanka out for 50 in an extraordinary game. Yeah, every ball swung, every pitch we played on a little bit of bounce, a little bit of carrying them, a little bit of spin. It was perfect conditions and some really good performances throughout,” Dominic Cork said while speaking to Sky Sports.
Dominic Cork on India and Pakistan:
Speaking further, Dominic Cork spoke on India and Pakistan’s chances in the forthcoming ODI World Cup. While India are receiving praise from all over for their triumph in the Asia Cup, Pakistan are facing severe criticism from several quarters for their disastrous exit from the tournament.
The Men in Green began well but bowed out of the tournament at the Super 4 stage after suffering a heavy defeat against India and a narrow loss to Sri Lanka. Dominic Cork stated that while Pakistan are looking discombobulated, one cannot write off their chances.
“Who’s looking good there? India and Pakistan are just looking like I know him a look. Discombobulated? I think that’s the word. I’m looking for this. Discombobulated. I think that’s the word I was looking for.
“I just think the way that you look at Pakistan and think they’d have no chance in the World Cup, You know, you could never write them off. But when you look at India, they just look like a complete package,” said Dominic Cork.
The ICC World Cup 2023 is scheduled to get underway on October 5. Pakistan will open its campaign on October 6 against the Netherlands while India will open their campaign on October 8 against Australia. The high-profile match between India and Pakistan is scheduled to be played on October 14.
