Rohit Sharma is the current ODI skipper for India and is expected to lead the team in the tournament. However, India can still form a powerful squad if all seniors are rested for ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Here, we form a hypothetical India squad for World Cup if all seniors are left-out.
India’s World Cup Squad 2023 If All Senior Players Are Left Out
Openers- Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal
If seniors are rested for ICC World Cup 2023, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal should be picked as openers. They provide a left-right combination to the opening slot. Whether it was IPL 2023 or international games, both these players showcased a stupendous performance as openers this year.
Middle-Order Batters- Tilak Varma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube
Tilak Varma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Shivam Dube should be three players in the middle if all seniors are rested in ICC World Cup 2023. Left-handed Varma showed a marvelous performance in the recent IND vs WI T20I series, smacking 173 runs for India.
Ruturaj Gaikwad has little international experience but gave a fabulous performance this year. Shivam Dube impressed with his middle-order batting in IPL 2023 and also has a little international experience.
Wicketkeepers- Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan
For wicketkeepers, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan should be picked if seniors are left-out for ICC World Cup 2023. Samson slammed a fifty against West Indies recently. He missed many games this year due to injury.
However, for the last two years, Samson has shown outstanding batting form in ODIs. Ishan Kishan should be another wicketkeeper. The left-handed batsman has a decent experience in the national team. The Mumbai Indians player also showcased amazing from in IPL 2023 and the recent West Indies tour.
All-Rounders- Axar Patel, Shahbaz Ahmed
For all-rounders, Axar Patel and Shahbaz Ahmed should be picked in the absence of seniors. Ahmed has played a few ODI games for India and is getting opportunities in the national team.
The left-handed batsman has impressed with his performances in the IPL tournament. Axar Patel is another all-rounder who can rock the field with both bat and ball.
Spinners- Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar
For spinners, Ravi Bishnoi and Washington Sundar should make it to India’s squad for ICC World Cup 2023. Bishnoi is a right-arm leg spinner while Sundar is an off-spinner. Bishnoi has played some T20I games for India.
Sundar has a good experience for India but has been out of the field during the last two years due to frequent injuries.
Pacers- Mukesh Kumar, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna
If senior pacers are rested, bowlers like Mukesh Kumar, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, and Prasidh Krishna should be part of India’s squad in the ICC World Cup 2023. Mukesh Kumar and Umran Malik have played for India in recent times.
Arshdeep Singh has featured in 3 ODIs so far. The left-arm pacer owns a superb record in the shortest format. Prasidh Krishna was a regular pacer for India in ODIs until he faced an injury earlier this year. However, the right-arm pacer is back to the Indian team after recovering from injury.
