Lance Klusener Skeptical About South Africa's Chances Of Making It Out Of The Group Stages In The World Cup

South Africa’s Ex-Cricketer, Lance Klusener has made his feelings clear about South Africa’s chances in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He feels that it will be very difficult for South Africa to reach the Semi-finals given their previous record in the ICC tournaments. Klusener feels that the biggest challenge will be for the batters to put up a mammoth total consistently.

While Talking about South Africa’s chances in the World Cup, Lance Klusener showed concerns about the team’s chances and he was not sure whether South Africa would qualify for the Semi-Finals or not. He talked about the batting and opined that batters will have to put mammoth totals on the scoreboard consistently.

“I’m not sure if South Africa will get out of the group stages. I think if they get to the semi-finals, they will have needed to have consistently scored enough runs in the competition. That is the challenge for them. I’m not too sure they’ll reach the semi-finals.” said Klusener regarding South Africa’s chances for the World Cup.

Lance Klusener Believes Heinrich Klassen Will Play A Big Role For South Africa

Lance Klusener mentioned Heinrich Klassen as his game-changer for South Africa. He opined that Klassen will play a massive role if South Africa has to qualify for the semi-finals. Klusener also talked about Klassen’s vulnerability early on and compared him to Ben Stokes.

“How do you stop him [Heinrich Klaasen]? I think he’s one of those batsmen who needs to fire for South Africa to get out of those group stages. Like Ben Stokes, he’s vulnerable early. If there’s some decent fast bowling at him early on, there’s always an opportunity and it always gives you an opportunity during the course of his innings.” said Lance Klusener about Heinrich Klassen.

Lance Klusener may practically think that South Africa doesn’t have much of a chance to win this World Cup but he still hopes for a miracle. The South African side has been one of the top contenders to win the World Cup but somehow they fail to win important matches.

“South Africa seem to never get over the line in big competitions due to bad luck, or down to rain, or bad running or whatever reason, but I’m sure at some point they will. Maybe this year when no one really, certainly not me, is giving them much of a chance, maybe they’ll surprise us all, which would be fantastic!” said Klusener about South Africa’s bad luck in ICC tournaments.

South Africa will kick off their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on 7th October in Delhi and this time they will hope to remove the ‘Chokers’ tag that they have. If they play with their full potential, South Africa can be the dark horse in this World Cup.
