Former Indian cricketer Atul Wassan talked about India’s chances in the ICC World Cup 2023. He believes that the experience of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be the team’s X-factor as they have the ability to soak the pressure.

The ICC World Cup 2023 will begin on 5th October and no doubt hosts India will be favorites to win the title. They have looked extremely dangerous in the build-up of the tournament as they recently won the Asia Cup 2023 and also thumped Australia in the home series.

India ticked almost every box right going into the ICC World Cup. All the youngsters along with seniors have regained their touch and the hosts look extremely threatening. With the kind of form they are in, they have a great opportunity to end their ICC title drought.

The experience of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be great for the team as they have been the linchpin of the team’s batting lineup for a while now. The duo will have to play a huge role if India have to fancy their chances of winning the title.

Atul Wassan said that India need someone to soak the pressure and for that, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s experience will be crucial for the team. Speaking to ANI, he explained:

“It is not like we played in Sri Lanka and we became hot favourites. Anything can happen at any time. By default, Ashwin has come into the squad and the team looks balanced. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s experience is our x-factor because, in a long match, you need one player who can soak the pressure.”

Atul Wassan backs Rohit Sharma-led India to be favorites in the World Cup 2023

Atul Wassan also highlighted that India have Kuldeep Yadav in the ranks as well, which makes them favorites. He asserted that the Rohit Sharma-led will no doubt reach the top four.

“We also have Kuldeep so I think these two-three trump cards help us to become favourites. India will definitely be there in the top four along with England and Australia. For the fourth spot I want Pakistan to be there, their spin department is very weak.”

India will open their campaign against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8.
