Shakib Al Hasan was appointed as the captain of the ODI team after Tamim Iqbal stepped down before the Asia Cup 2023. The veteran all-rounder will continue to lead the national cricket team in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, scheduled to commence on October 5.
I Will Retire From Three Formats At The Same Time – Shakib Al Hasan
In an interview with the sports channel T-Sports, Shakib Al Hasan stated his intention to retire from T20I cricket following the T20 World Cup in 2024. He also said that he is considering retiring from Test cricket after the World Cup.
“As far as international career is concerned, what I see at this moment it is up to 2025 Champions Trophy that is the ODI format. The T20 format is up to 2024 World Cup and that’s it. As far as Test goes, may be sooner, maybe after the World Cup,” Shakib told T-sports on Wednesday.
“May be I will retire from three formats at the same time and no one can tell about future but at this moment I have such an idea,” he further added.
Shakib Al Hasan was rested during Bangladesh’s recent three-match ODI series against New Zealand at home. The Bangla Tigers suffered the defeat 2-0, marking their first series loss against New Zealand at home since 2010.
