Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma made a comeback into the Indian team in the final ODI against Australia. Both the senior cricketers are expected to play the warm-up game against England on Saturday, September 30 in Guwahati.
Both the senior Indian players are in good form and will look forward to the warm-up match against England to muster some more runs against a good bowling attack.
Nick Night is expecting flat wickets to be provided in the ICC World Cup 2023 and thus named Adil Rashid as England’s biggest weapon in sub-continental conditions. Speaking to Jamie Alter on his podcast, Knight highlighted the importance of Adil Rashid for England.
“I think when you look at this England side, you look back at winning the World Cup in 2019, you look at the top order blasting those early runs. Muscular, belligerent players whacking fours and sixes. England setting big totals. England going past 400. England going to late 300s, then defending. The key player for me in that is Adil Rashid,” former England opener turned TV analyst and commentator said on the podcast.
Adil Rashid Can Dismiss Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma: Nick Knight
He further spoke about Rashid being the bowler who can break key stands for opposition players. He said it is Rashid who can dismiss the two senior Indian batters when they have a big partnership in the game.
“Sometimes I see his name getting overlooked too much in the importance of what England achieved in the last cycle and winning that World Cup. When you look at the difference between T20 cricket and 50-over cricket, you are looking essentially in the bowling perspective, who have you got that can break that stubborn partnership? When Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are flying and they’re going 150 partnership and the wicket is flat and things are not going your way, who can you turn to as a captain and say, right, break me this partnership? Adil Rashid,” Knight added.
England begin their World Cup campaign against New Zealand in Ahmedabad on October 5. Ahead of that, they play two warm-up games with the first against India on Saturday, September 30.
