Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli will be playing in his fourth World Cup and his second at home. India begin their campaign on October 8 against Australia with Kohli grabbing a lot of eyeballs ahead of the tournament.

India recently won an ODI series against Australia 2-1. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were rested from the first two games and he played the final ODI which India unfortunately lost. Both Kohli and Rohit are in good form heading into the marquee event.

Ahead of India’s campaign opener, Virat Kohli spoke to ICC about his journey as a cricketer and his previous World Cup experiences. He said how he has changed as a cricketer in the last four to two to three years especially overcoming his difficult century-less phase.

“Those angry celebrations are a thing of the past. I have had many suggestions, lots of advice has come my way; people were telling me I was doing this wrong, that wrong” Kohli told ICC ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Wasn’t Able To Explain It To Anyone: Virat Kohli On His Rough Phase

He further spoke about how he turned the tide and overcame the rough patch in his international career.

“I picked out all the videos from the best time I had, same initial movement, same approach towards the ball and it was just what was happening inside my head, I wasn’t able to explain it to anyone” Kohli further said.

Virat Kohli scored his first-century 71st international ton against Afghanistan in Asia Cup 2022. Since then, he has been the fifth-highest run-getter in international cricket, 1769 from 41 innings.

Kohli is heading into the tournament with peak form and is one of the only two players who were part of India’s 2011 World Cup winning squad along with Ravichandran Ashwin who also will be playing his second World Cup at home.

India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, England, and the Netherlands are 10 teams part of the ICC World Cup 2023. The ICC World Cup 2023 final will take place on November 19. The tournament starts on October 5.

ICC World Cup 2023 will be played in a round-robin format. Hence, each team will face the other team once during the league stage. A total of 48 games will take place among 10 teams during ICC World Cup 2023. The matches will be played across 10 venues around the country of India.
