Rohit Sharma-led Team India are one of the strongest contenders to win the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. India have all of their first-choice players available for the tournament and are in good form going into the World Cup.
The Men in Blue recently won Asia Cup 2023 where they registered some impressive wins over the likes of Pakistan and Sri Lanka. And in the ongoing three-match series against Australia, they faced little difficulty in winning the first two games. What is impressive about those two wins is that they did it even in the absence of the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav, and Hardik Pandya.
India will enter the World Cup as the number-one-ranked team in the world. Rohit Sharma & Co. will be desperate to win the World Cup after facing severe criticism in recent years for their failure to go all the way in ICC competitions. India have not won the World Cup since 2011 they last won an ICC trophy in 2013.
Rohit Sharma eyes World Cup title:
The last time the ODI World Cup was played, Rohit Sharma had enjoyed a stunning campaign. In 9 matches, he had scored 648 runs with the help of a record 5 centuries and one fifty. And while the fans will definitely love to see Rohit Sharma replicate that performance in the upcoming World Cup, the India skipper is not focusing much on that.
In a recent interview, Rohit Sharma stated that he just wants to win the World Cup even if he fails to score a single century in the competition.
“Whether I score 1 hundred or 2 hundreds or even no hundred in this World Cup 2023, we have to win the World Cup Trophy and this is the main goal,” said Rohit Sharma to Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel.
The World Cup is scheduled to be played from October 5 to November 19. India will open their campaign against Australia on October 8.
