The leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal had to miss out on a spot in the Indian squad for the T20 Worldcup 2021 in UAE and it has been one of the surprising decisions as well. Before the team was announced, Yuzvendra Chahal looked like a certainty for the T20 Worldcup and it has been slightly harsh on him as well.
Meanwhile, the selectors have preferred Rahul Chahar over Chahal with the reason being the former is quick in the air and extracts a lot of purchase from the dry wickets in UAE. Chahar has been impressive in the few outings he has played for India but it certainly is a big question mark of him replacing the experienced Yuzvendra Chahal. Here are 3 reasons why Yuvzendra Chahal deserved a place in India’s squad for T20 Worldcup.
3 Reasons Why Yuzvendra Chahal Deserved A Place In India’s Squad For T20 World Cup:
Impressive Numbers In International T20Is:
Yuvzendra Chahal has an excellent record in international T20s for India and he has been the best spinner for India in the limited-overs format in the last two years. The leg spinner has picked up 63 wickets in 49 T20 internationals at an average of 25.3 and he is always a wicket-taking bowler. On his day, he can be very lethal as he has the big figures of 6 wickets for 25 runs,
The 31-year-old has been castling a lot of international batsmen and he can bowl those loopy slow leg spinners wide of the crease to get their dismissals. He has by far been the best T20 spinner after Rashid Khan in the last two to three years and he should have made the cut for the T20 Worldcup.
Chahal’s IPL Record In UAE
Yuzvendra Chahal wasn’t much effective in the IPL 2021 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore but he bowled really well in the last IPL edition in UAE. He finished as the fifth-highest taker in the IPL 2021 and was the only spinner on the Purple cap top five list as well.
Chahal picked up 21 wickets in the 15 games he played in the previous edition and he was the go-to bowler for the skipper Virat Kohli whenever he needed a wicket. He used the big boundaries to his advantage and wasn’t afraid to toss the boss in the air which was one of his major strengths. He always was one step ahead of the batsmen with his thinking.
Chahal’s Performances in Sri Lanka
Yuvzendra Chahal hasn’t done well in the home series against England and there were a lot of concerns over him with his poor record in IPL 2021 in the first phase as well. However, he still was backed by the captain in IPL as well by the selectors for the Sri Lanka series.
Chahal looked like he got his best rhythm back in the ODI series against Sri Lanka and he was among the wickets again. He proved to be a match-winner in the first two ODIs and Indian selectors should have rewarded him with another chance in the T20 Worldcup. India has picked five spinners ahead of him which still remains a big question.
