Scotland:
Scotland have been nothing short of outstanding in the tournament. Impressive performances in the first round helped them qualify for the Super 12 stage. Scotland won all the three games they played in the qualifying round and finished at the top of the table. Richie Berrington has been their standout batsman in the tournament. He has shown great form and is coming into the game on the back of a brilliant 70-run knock off 40 balls against Papua New Guinea.
Kyle Coetzer played an unbeaten 41-run knock-off 28 balls in the last game against Oman. It should give him some confidence ahead of an important game on Monday. Their star batsman, George Munsey has blown hot and cold so far. He once again missed out on a big score against Oman, scoring 20 runs off 19 balls, including 4 fours.
With the ball, Josh Devay has been their standout player. The last game against Oman saw him claiming 3 for 25 in 4 overs. In the previous game against Papua New Guinea, Davey finished with figures of 4 for 18 in 3.3 overs.
Afghanistan
Afghanistan will be playing their first match of the ICC T20 World Cup on Monday. There will be nervousness in the camp but the presence of Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi should make it a little easier. The duo has been part of different franchise leagues across the tournament. They know how to perform on big stages and would be eager to make an impact in the ongoing tournament as well. Add Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Afghanistan have one of the best spin attacks in the tournament.
Besides, there is no dearth of power-hitters in the squad. The presence of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Hazratullah Zazai and Mohmamad Shahzad should keep the team in good stead. However, they haven’t been consistent enough with their performances. Afghanistan might suffer a collapse in the batting unit if the batsmen don’t pace their innings well on the slow tracks in UAE.
For the unversed, Rashid Khan has stepped down from the captaincy and Mohammad Nabi will lead the side. The bowling has never been issue for them but how well their batsmen play under pressure will be there to see.
