BCCI President Sourav Ganguly Thanks MS Dhoni For Accepting The Role Of Mentor For T20 World Cup 2021
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has extended his gratitude to former skipper MS Dhoni for accepting the board’s offer of joining the Indian team as a mentor for the T20 World Cup.
Recently, India announced its squad for the upcoming ICC event which had a few surprises along the way. The biggest of them all, however, was in a management role when it was announced that Dhoni would travel with the team as a mentor.
Many termed it as a welcome move, considering the astute tactical mind of the 40-year-old could help India break its ICC trophy drought. Sourav Ganguly expressed happiness over the latest addition and revealed that the team could use Dhoni’s experience in the World Cup.
“MS Dhoni’s addition to the side is a way to use his experience for the T20 World Cup. I also thank Dhoni for accepting BCCI’s offer to help the team for this tournament,” Ganguly was quoted as saying.
“MS Dhoni’s appointment will be a big boost for Team India” – Sunil Gavaskar
Former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar was also delighted with the addition of MS Dhoni in a different role. He hoped the team could gel together under Virat Kohli and Dhoni. Although he wasn’t sure if Dhoni and Ravi Shastri could work as a team.
“If there are disagreements over tactics and team selection, then there might be bit of an effect on the team. But Dhoni’s appointment itself will be a big boost for Team India. He has so much experience, he knows everything.“
“There was no bigger, destructive player than Dhoni when he was active in international cricket. His appointment is good news for India but I am just praying there is no clash. But if Ravi Shastri and Dhoni can get on the same wavelength, then it’s big news for India,” Gavaskar said.
India meets arch-rivals Pakistan in its first Super-12 stage match on October 24 in Dubai. India’s record of never having lost to Pakistan in World Cups will be at stake when the two teams meet.
