Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar mentioned that India won’t have an east game against New Zealand on Sunday.

After losing to Pakistan in their respective opening games of the T20 World Cup, both India and New Zealand are set to face each other in their next match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Virat Kohli and his men will be under pressure with the fact that India hasn’t defeated the Black Caps in ICC tournaments since last 18 years.

New Zealand have this fighting quality and don’t give up: Sunil Gavaskar

India toured New Zealand in 2020 to play a multi-format bilateral series, and Kohli & co commenced with a 5-0 whitewash in the T20I series.

Gavaskar reminded India to take confidence from that achievement as they enter in a must-win match.

New Zealand has always been a balanced team. They have this fighting quality and don’t give up and that is why when you play against them, you have got to look out. It is never an easy match against them. Don’t forget, India had blanked New Zealand 5-0 in 2020 even though two matches went into Super Overs. Still, India had won those matches so they would like to take that into consideration to increase their confidence,” Gavaskar said on Sports Tak.

This is a great Indian team: Sunil Gavaskar

India suffered a humiliating 10-wicket loss against Pakistan in the first match in Dubai. It was the very first time that Pakistan won against their neighbours in a T20 World Cup clash.

Gavaskar backs Kohli and his men to bounce back in the tournament and also pointed out at how India has made some remarkable comebacks in past.

This is a great Indian team. Losing one game doesn’t make them a bad team. They have the capabilities to win the next few games and qualify for the semifinals, let alone win the title. Just because they didn’t perform doesn’t mean that this team isn’t good,” Gavaskar said.

India are a champion team and I would like to tell them to show the world what qualities India have. We have seen this pattern in the last couple of years where every time India are at the bottom, how they rejuvenate themselves to emerge back to the top,” he added.

India also have their matches against Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia to push their case for the semi-final berth.
