T20 World Cup 2021: He's One Of The Best - Eoin Morgan Heaps Praise On Jos Buttler
England skipper Eoin Morgan spoke highly of his teammate, Jos Buttler, who produced a masterclass on a slow track in Dubai to take the Englishmen to their third victory in a row in the Super 12 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup.
Buttler scored a brilliant 71* off just 32, which included five boundaries and five massive sixes. His shots against Mitchell Starc were the highlight of the night, tonking the Aussie quick for fun while being in full flow.
“I think he’s certainly one of our players – there are a few of them, that are at the forefront of change in the game. He’s one of the best players in the games but yet he’s still trying to improve his game and get better against every single bowler that he faces.“
“It’s not just targeting bowlers that might suit him, it’s every bowler. When you’ve got guys that are at the forefront of change within the game and like a positive change, taking the game forward type stuff, it says a lot about the guy,” Morgan said in an official ICC release.
The matchups at the time didn’t suit – Eoin Morgan on why he didn’t bowl Moeen Ali in the powerplay
Eoin Morgan mentioned that there was a change in the usual bowling combination early on because of the unfavourable matchups. Moeen Ali has been England’s go-to bowler in the powerplay, but Morgan decided to get the quick bowlers on early, which paid off dividends.
“It’s just a reflection on my captaincy. The matchups at the time didn’t suit. They do suit some of the Australian players, but they were already dismissed, and I thought that worked really well.“
“Moeen is quite a relaxed guy and knows the role that he plays both before the game and during the game. That’s always communicated across all of the bowling unit. We try and adapt and talk about what might work on the wicket against different players, and today unfortunately he wasn’t needed,” Morgan said.
England annihilated Australia by 8 wickets to cement their place at the top with an excellent net run rate. They are well set to finish at the top of Group 1.
