Former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt feels that it’s not possible that former India head coach Ravi Shastri and captain Virat Kohli had no inputs in the selection of the Indian squad for the marquee ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 event.
Recently, outgoing India Head Coach Shastri opened up about the Indian squad picked by selectors for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and said that he and Kohli were not involved in the selection of the squad and he was just part of a discussion about India’s playing XI in the tournament. He asserted:
“I was not involved in the team selection. I was just part of the discussion about which final 11 players to play. The 15-member Indian team was selected by the selection committee for the World Cup. Neither I nor even captain Virat Kohli agreed to this.”
India entered the tournament as favourites to win the trophy but they had a poor outing as they lost two consecutive games against Pakistan and New Zealand and were eventually knocked out of the tournament.
Can’t Believe That There Were No Inputs From Ravi Shastri And Virat Kohli Regarding India’s Team Selection – Salman Butt
Former Pakistan Captain Salman Butt addressed Shastri’s statement on his YouTube channel and said that he can’t believe that no inputs were taken from Head Coach and captain before the squad selection. Butt also said that a coach and captain decide the brand of cricket team will play and it won’t be possible if they don’t have players of their choice. He asserted:
“How is it even possible? Can’t believe that there were no inputs from Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli regarding India’s team selection, who have been at the helm of the side for close to five years? The coach and captain decide the brand of cricket the team will play. If they do not have players of their choice, then they will not be able to do that,”
