Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar said that Rohit Sharma might open with KL Rahul in the match against Afghanistan.

The Indian team management had stunned the entire cricket world when they revealed Ishan Kishan as their new opener alongside KL Rahul in their recent game against New Zealand.

Flamboyant opener Rohit Sharma was pushed down to No.3, something that didn’t go well with the plan and faced the backlash of fans and experts.

Ishan could only add four runs to India’s tally, and Rohit also made just 14 runs after finding a four and a six.

Cricket experts like Gautam Gambhir said that Rohit Sharma is one of the best white-ball players, and there is no reason for him to be demoted in India’s batting order.

Rohit Sharma will open against Afghanistan, Ishan Kishan will bat at 4 or 5: Sunil Gavaskar

Gavaskar is of the opinion that Rohit will come back to his opening position with KL Rahul, and Ishan Kishan might either bat at No.4 or 5.

I think in this game, Rohit will open with Rahul and Virat will come in at No. 3. At No. 4 or 5 Ishan Kishan should come. We don’t even know if Suryakumar Yadav is fit. He was not dropped but he had some issues in the back which is why Ishan Kishan played in his place. But if he is fit, Suryakumar is likely to return,” Gavaskar todl Sports Tak.

“I think Ishan should bat at either No. 4 or 5. It will be good for him because when he comes to bat, I am guessing around 4-5 overs will be left and he can swing his bat as much as he wants.

“At the start, there is some problem because he does not know the manner in which to bat, how many runs needed. That is the only change I see happening. Rohit returns to his opening position and Ishan, if he plays, will bat at either No. 4 or 5,” he further added.

India play against Afghanistan on Wednesday at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
