Indian skipper Virat Kohli has opined that the toss will continue to be a big factor in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. India lost the toss in the T20 World Cup opener against Pakistan, and they were invited to bat first, and the decision favoured Pakistan a lot as they were able to restrict India at a decent score.
Later, Pakistan successfully chased the target with 10 wickets in hand, and this was the first time Pakistan were able to beat India in the World Cup encounter.
Meanwhile, India will next lock horns with Kane Williamson-led New Zealand National Cricket Team on Sunday at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, and they will be hoping for a better outcome this time.
In a press conference ahead of the clash against New Zealand, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli was asked, “Is toss becoming a big factor in the T20 World Cup 2021 with the dew around” to which Kohli replied, by saying that it will continue to be a big factor. However, he feels that either a team can bank too much about the toss or can accept it and focus on the game.
“Yeah it will continue to be a big factor and that’s the nature of this tournament. You can look at the situation in two ways, either you can bank too much on the toss or you can challenge yourself as a team to say ok even if we lose the toss we are good enough to bowl or bat in any conditions and that should be attitude,” Indian captain elaborated.
We Don’t Have Time In Shortest Form Of The Game To Think Too Much About What Happen At The Toss – Virat Kohli
The 32-year-old believes that teams don’t have much time to think about what happened during the toss because, in T20 cricket, the game moves quickly.
“We don’t have time in the shortest form of the game to think too much about what happens at the toss because the game goes away from you pretty quickly and two or three overs can change the course of the game, as we saw in the last game as well so for us our only focus is how those 11 individuals are placed mentally and how we are looking to approach this game,” he maintained.
Virat Kohli further added that India got a long break after their first game against Pakistan, and now they just want to get back to the ground to compete and correct their mistakes from the previous game.
“It’s been a long break for us and it’s been a lot of time waiting and doing nothing really for us as a team. Now we are just itching to go back on the park and just be competing again and look to correct things that didn’t happen in the first game,” he asserted.
