Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha has been largely impressed by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who was named in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup. Chakravarthy made his India debut earlier in the year and has played just 3 T20Is, but his mystery and penetrative prowess earned him a spot in the World Cup squad.

Chakravarthy snapped up 17 wickets in the IPL 2020 and has taken 10 wickets so far this season. He bagged the Man of the Match award against RCB on Monday for his terrific figures of 3/13.

Pragyan Ojha reckons the Tamil Nadu spinner is an impact player and will serve Indian cricket well.

“Varun Chakravarthy has been chosen in the T20 World Cup squad because he is an impact player. He is a mystery bowler. When we talk about T20 cricket, if you look at big names like Jasprit Bumrah or Lasith Malinga, they are spoken about a lot because of their ability to pick wickets at will and turn the game,” Pragyan Ojha told Sportskeeda.

“I think Varun Chakravarthy will do well not only for his franchise but for the Indian team as well. I’m really happy to see youngsters like him perform,” he added.

“Arshdeep Singh is a promising and exciting prospect. The good thing is that he is not scared of any challenges. This aspect of his game is visible because he bowls with the new ball, in the middle overs and at the death as well.

“He is very well aware of the challenges of T20 cricket. and how to address them. Youngsters like Arshdeep performing so well will definitely benefit Indian cricket in the future,” Pragyan Ojha further stated.

India will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 24 in Dubai. They will then meet New Zealand, Afghanistan, and two other teams who will qualify from Round 1 to the Super 12 stage.
