T20 World Cup 2021: Twitter Reacts As India Thrash Scotland, Go Above Afghanistan & New Zealand's NRR
Updated - 05 Nov 2021, 11:06 PM
The Indian team continued their newfound resurgence as they crushed a hapless Scotland side in the Super 12 match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. They also received a massive net run rate boost which bodes well going forward in the tournament.
In a turn of events, skipper Virat Kohli finally had the rub of the green going his way as he won the toss and put Scotland in to bat first. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami once again provided early breakthroughs, pushing the Scots back in the powerplay.
Ravindra Jadeja then came on to tilt the game completely in India’s favor with a double-wicket seventh over. The wind was blown out of Scottish sails and they never managed to recover. Jadeja ended with figures of 3/15 in his four overs.
Shami then came on to clean up the tail, helping himself to a 3-wicket haul as well. Michael Leask provided some late flourish with the bat, scoring a quickfire 21 off 12 balls and the Scots managed to reach 85 in 17.4 overs, a target that wasn’t going to bother the Men in Blue.
Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul put on an exhibition of strokeplay in the very few overs they were at the crease, with clear intent to boost their net run rate. They finished the game in just 6.3 overs, losing both the openers in the process.
The win took the Indian team past Afghanistan and into third place. Their net run rate is superior to both Afghanistan and New Zealand. However, the Black Caps just need to win their final game against the Afghans to progress into the semifinals.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to India’s thumping win:

India needed to chase the target down in 7.1 overs to take their NRR above that of Afghanistan and New Zealand. They have done that in 6.3 overs. Everything for the Indian fans depends on one match now!#INDvSCO | #T20WorldCup

If New Zealand beat Afghanistan they are through
If Afghanistan beat New Zealand and India beat Namibia then all 3 teams will finish on 6 points and NRR will decide who joins Pakistan in the semi-finals #T20WorldCup pic.twitter.com/cVzNccex3Y

India chase down 86 in only 39 balls. Kohli faced no balls in their last win. On his birthday he got to play 2. Rahul (50 in 19) and Rohit show off some insane hitting skills. India's Net Run Rate now just fine.
Over to Afghanistan to beat New Zealand. #INDvSCO #T20WorldCup— Anand Vasu (@anandvasu) November 5, 2021
