England opener Jason Roy was seen in tears after picking up an injury while batting against South Africa on Saturday in Sharjah.
While completing a single, running from the non-striker’s end, Jason Roy hobbled for about three-fourth of the pitch to the striker’s end. He did manage to complete the single, but straightaway went on the ground with what seems like a calf or a hamstring injury.
Jos Buttler looked worried and a couple of Proteas players came to check up on Jason Roy as the England physio came in running to tend to the opener. The right-hander lay down as the physio worked on him. Jason Roy put his gloves over his eyes, in tears at the prospect of his World Cup campaign in uncertainty right before the semi-final.
He had to then limp off the field with the support of a couple of shoulders. Jason Roy has scored 123 runs in 5 matches and has given quickfire starts to England alongside Buttler.
England’s run-chase in balance
Chasing 190, England got off to a brisk start with both Jos Buttler and Jason Roy stroking a flurry of boundaries of the South African bowlers. England raced to 37/0 off 4 overs before Roy walked off the field with a leg/hamstring injury and Moeen Ali came in to bat.
In the sixth over, Buttler thumped Anrich Nortje for a maximum but the speedster reverted with Buttler’s wicket, caught at mid-off. England, though, were still on top with 59/1 at the end of the powerplay.
Tabraiz Shamsi then brought the game in balance trapping Jonny Bairstow lbw in the 7th over. Dawid Malan and Moeen Ali put up a 51-run stand off 36 balls. Ali, after cracking three fours and two sixes, was dismissed by Shamsi, caught at long-on.
