Former Australian All-rounder Tom Moody believes Australia will go in as favourites as they meet Ireland in the Super-12 clash on Monday in Brisbane.
However, Australia’s form is still shrouded in enough ambiguity that nothing can be taken for granted. Although Marcus Stoinis helped them win against Sri Lanka, the washout against England raised some concerns.
Meanwhile, because they were riding high after defeating England, Ireland will likely feel even more aggrieved by the doubleheader’s cancellation at the MCG. Ireland would have been confident in making a strong effort to get another two points against Afghanistan.

Josh Little May Challenge Australian Top Order: Tom Moody
When asked about if the Irish team can put some pressure on the hosts, Tom Moody said that the only way Ireland can get some contest into the game is if they can pick some wickets with the new ball. He added that Josh Little can make the new ball talk and will tease Aaron Finch with his incoming deliveries.

“I think them taking full advantage of the new ball there we know the ball does bounce and can swing early on. The likes of Little making some early breakthroughs. He’s had a good tournament so far, he had a good year. He bowls at a good pace too.
“He will challenge the Australian top-order, particularly Aaron finch, the left-arm with the ball swinging back in is not something that Finch has handled that well over recent years. So early wickets putting pressure on the Australians,” Tom Moody said.

Tom Moody stated that there is nothing difficult that Australia will face going past through the Irish team. They are very familiar with the wicket at Gabba and got a bowling attack that suits the wicket well.

“I really can’t see Australia tripping up here. They are slowly putting things together. Yes, they obviously got the disappointment of the washout against England.
“But they are playing at a venue that is everything in their favor. They are very familiar with the pace and bounce at the Gabba. They have got a bowling attack that’s gonna welcome it too.”
Pressure On Aaron Finch: Tom Moody
Tom Moody thinks Aaron Finch has to perform better than he is doing currently as every country knows that he is struggling with form. Moody believes Australia got only one area for improvement and that is their Top-order batting.
“I think it’s a conversation that’s happening in every cricketing room in the world. Everyone is talking about Finch defending his position staunchly but at the end of the day it pulls down to the Australians trying to get their combination right and there is clearly an area they can improve and that is at the top of the order.

“He’s got the ball in his court. He’s gotta go out there and show more than what he has shown so far. May it be the game where he reignites that form and can find the centre of the bat regularly,” Moody said.
