Zimbabwe defeated Pakistan in a thrilling match in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 at the Perth Stadium on Thursday, October 27. After winning the toss and batting first, they put 130 runs on the board and won the match by one run.

The Craig Erwin-led side will take on Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh in their next Super 12 match in the marquee event at the Gabba in Brisbane on Friday, October 30. The Zimbabwe skipper believes that his team can progress to the semi-finals of the multinational tournament.

We’ve Got A Huge Chance To Make The Semis – Craig Ervine

“Look, we’ve got a huge chance to make the semis. It requires us to win against Bangladesh and also to beat Netherlands, and then we’ve got our final game against India, and depending on some other results,”the 37-year-old told reporters ahead of Sunday’s contest in Brisbane.

“I think we’re probably just looking at tomorrow and trying to concentrate on tomorrow’s game and putting in a good performance tomorrow, and then after that, then we can look at the Netherlands and plan our way forward from there.”

Zimbabwe are currently third in the Group 2 table in the Super 12 stage with three points and a net run rate of +0.050. Except for the loss against the West Indies in the qualifiers, Erwin and Co have been pretty clinical. Bangladesh are coming off a 104-run defeat against South Africa on Thursday, but Ervine is wary of their opponents.

We’re Definitely Going To Bring Our A-Game Against Bangladesh – Craig Ervine

“We know that Bangladesh is a quality side, so we’re definitely going to have to bring our A-game tomorrow. The guys – obviously got their tails up. We’ve got a lot of confidence obviously with the win against Pakistan, but we just know how fragile this game is and how quickly it can turn around.”

“We’d like to try and repeat that kind of wins going forward to try and make sure that we can get an away tour to England or England can come to us or Australia or India. It does open up opportunities, but we need to do it a little bit more consistently.”
