As they prepare to face England in the T20 World Cup 2022 final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Babar Azam’s Pakistan will want to win the tournament for just the second time in their history and for the first time in 13 years (November 13).

After defeating the Rohit Sharma-led Team India by 10 wickets in the second semifinal on Thursday, Jos Buttler’s England are on a roll (November 10).

The 1992 50-over World Cup final at the MCG, which saw these same two teams competing for supremacy, will serve as a prelude to Sunday’s championship match.

Pakistan back then overcame England to win the World Championship for the first time under Imran Khan. In contrast, England has only won one T20 championship, which they did in 2010 after defeating Australia in the Caribbean.

As they appeared “dead and buried” after losing their first two Super 12 matches against India and Zimbabwe, Pakistan’s journey to the final has been nothing short of a miracle. But Babar Azam’s team easily advanced to the semifinals thanks to a shock Netherlands victory over South Africa and Pakistan’s victory over Bangladesh.

In the match between the teams in the last four, Pakistan easily defeated Kane Williamson’s New Zealand by five wickets to advance. The T20 World Cup 2022 is expected to be an exciting tournament, and the supporters are now anticipating an exciting match between both teams. Both Jos Buttler and Babar Azam will now be focused on the end result.

“Pakistan needs to perform well against England”: Anil Kumble

“A lot more swing, some bounce, and pace are present at MCG. Therefore, it depends; I don’t believe I’ll be like Adelaide’s pitch. Pakistan and England will therefore need to be on the lookout for it,” Anil Kumble said.

“In the match against India, England’s opening pair was strong. However, they still need to be on the lookout for swing, and England undoubtedly has the advantage in terms of experience and firepower.

“They also have choices in the bowling lineup, but Pakistan will be in the game, so they need to perform well against England.” Anil Kumble remarked on espncricinfo.com
