England beat New Zealand by 20 runs in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 super match at The Gabba in Brisbane on Tuesday, November 1. When 26 runs were needed off the last over, Sam Curran held his nerves and bowled brilliantly, conceding just 5 runs.
The young all-rounder Sam Curran took two wickets for 26 runs in his four overs and didn’t concede a single boundary. His bowling in the death overs (18th and 20th overs) was particularly impressive. He also smashed a six off one of the three balls he faced and took one catch.
The left-arm seamer has credited the Indian Premier League (IPL) with helping him cope with high-pressure situations. He feels that his time with Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings in recent years in the IPL has fast-tracked his development.
It Is Just Great Tournament And Great Standard Of Cricket – Sam Curran
“Just playing against the best players in the world and constantly being under pressure, those moments are great. It is just a great tournament and a great standard of cricket. It really tests you,” the 24-year-old said.
“I also really enjoyed my T20 Blast with Surrey as well. I did different roles and felt in a really good place. All the experiences I’m having, I’m really enjoying. Any T20 cricket against the best players in the world will only make you stronger, you learn from your bad days and get confidence from the good days.”
Sam Curran has taken nine wickets at an average of 7.44 with an impressive economy rate of 6.28 in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
England have the same points as New Zealand and Australia in their Super 12 group, while the Kiwis are set for a semi-final berth from Group 1 due to their inferior net run rate. However, the Jos Buttler-led team was in a position to reach the semi-final spot because they have a better net run rate than the Aussies.
