India will play their opening game of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 against Pakistan. The IND vs PAK match takes place on October 23 (Sunday) at Melbourne Cricket Stadium in Australia. Yuzvendra Chahal is going to be the first-choice spinner for India in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.

The right-arm spinner is the only full-time spinner in India’s squad for the tournament. Hence, he will lead the spin attack for India. As a spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal will need to provide breakthroughs to the team when the pacers fail to outplay the opposition. Here we talk about 3 reasons why Yuzvendra Chahal is destined to fail in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022: 3 Reasons Why Yuzvendra Chahal Is Destined To Fail In The World Cup

1. Seam-Friendly Australia Grounds

One thing is very clear about Australian grounds. They are big and seam-friendly. The flat pitches do not give an advantage to spinners. As a result, spinners suffer to perform well in Australia.

Since the venue of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 is Australia, spinners are unlikely to get much support on seam-friendly flat Australian stadiums. Hence, Yuzvendra Chahal might have a tough time in the tournament.

2. Average Performance in Recent Series

Yuzvendra Chahal proved that he should be the top spinner for India after IPL 2022; when he finished as the top wicket-taker in the tournament to win the purple cap. The right-arm spinner gave a wonderful performance in many other series as well this year.

However, the leg spinner has failed to grab the limelight in some recent T20I series. He picked only 2 wickets in 3 games in the T20I series against Australia last month. Prior to that, he grabbed 4 wickets in 4 games in Asia Cup 2022, which was held in a spin-friendly venue in UAE. Hence, if we consider recent T20I campaigns, Chahal has not come up with spectacular performances.

3. Poor Performance In Australia

Yuzvendra Chahal has played 3 T20I games in Australia so far, in which he has picked 4 wickets. However, he has registered a poor economy while playing in Australia. His economy rate of 9.75 while bowling in Australia is the second-highest among all regions, less than only South Africa where Chahal owns an economy of 12.87.

In other regions around the world, the Indian spinner has economy rates in the range of 6.0 to 8.5. Hence, his poor economy rate in Australia grounds can be repeated once again in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
