The Cricket West Indies (CWI) president Ricky Skerritt is “deeply disappointed” with the performance of the two-time T20 World Cup champions, West Indies National Cricket Team, in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 and he slammed the side following their early exit from the multi-nation tournament.

On Friday, October 21, West Indies faced a 9-wicket defeat against Ireland in the Round 1 match at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. With the loss, the Nicholas Pooran-led side failed to progress through to the Super 12 stage and they got knocked out of the tournament.

Following the team’s early World Cup exit, CWI released a statement in which the president Ricky Skerritt bashed the batting unit of the Caribbean team.

“I am deeply disappointed with the performance results of our team in Australia and I appreciate the sense of utter frustration that is being experienced by many,” Skerritt said.

“The ongoing inability of our batsmen to prevail over opposing slow bowling continued to be an obvious weakness in Australia, and untimely shot selections seem to be deeply embedded in the T20 batting culture of our senior team,” he added.

The CWI president Skerritt vowed that there would be “a thorough post-mortem” of West Indies’ early exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. He stated:

“A thorough post-mortem will be carried out on all aspects of our World Cup preparation and performance, and that solutions will be found in keeping with CWI’s strategy to improve the quality and sustainability of cricket on all fronts, and in all formats.

“West Indies cricket is bigger than any one individual or event, and continues to need the input and support of all stakeholders.”
