England Cricket Team would be ecstatic after winning the T20 World Cup for a second time as they ended the drought period of 12 years. The team showed great fighting spirit as not many gave them a chance after losing narrowly against Ireland. The way they defeated Pakistan said a lot about their team’s dynamics.
England didn’t panic as two of their premiere Cricketers; Mark Wood and Dawid Malan were injured. Skipper Jos Buttler stood behind his bowlers where he was a bowler’s captain. He was seen passing messages to Moeen Ali for bowlers in tough situations.
Dawid Malan on the Final
“We all have tough times in our careers. Not being able to play the final was probably one of the toughest days I’ve ever had as a cricketer. That’s what sport’s like – it’s cruel sometimes. Understandably, the decision was taken not to risk Woody and me, even though we’d done what was needed. I had a few tears that night, you never know how many World Cup finals you’re going to be a part of.” said Malan.
“If you’re just not fit and not able to do what’s required, it’s probably easier to take than to pass a fitness test and still be in a situation where you’re still at risk and you could still let the team down by pulling up the next day in the second over of the game chasing a ball.” he added.
Great Triumph for England
It may look like England was in a dominant position in the final but they were thoroughly tested. Ben Stokes played one of the finest knocks in the history of T20 World Cups; where he scored 52 runs in 49 balls and showed great temperament as he didn’t panic after facing a string of dot balls.
The Men in Green quite disciplined in their bowling as defending 138 runs is never easy on a modern cricket. Skipper Babar Azam was spot-on with his captaincy and made some shrewd fielding changes that were rewarding for the team.
