Australian Cricket Team registered a thumping victory over Sri Lanka. The Defending Champions won a crucial match against Sri Lanka by 7 wickets with 3.3 overs left. Australia announced its arrival at T20 World Cup after a drubbing received from the mighty Kiwis.

Sri Lanka on the other would have got a reality check as scoring 158 runs inside 17 overs raises quite a few eyebrows. Sri Lanka was dealt with an early blow as their pacer Binura Fernando was injured in the middle of the match.

Marcus Stoinis Hits 17 ball Half Century

The flamboyant all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis struck a blistering 17-ball half-century. He became the fastest batter to smash a half-century for  Australia. Earlier, Glenn Maxwell had the record when he smashed an 18-ball half-century against West Indies in 2010. Recently Cameron Green smashed a 19-ball half-century against India. David Warner scored a 19-ball half-century against South Africa way back in 2009. Shane Watson, the former all-rounder smashed 20 balls half-century against Sri Lanka in 2011.

Sri Lanka in Deep Trouble

The Island Nation would have thought that they can pull off a heist against Australia. Their strategy of playing with 3 spinners didn’t prove to be effective. Sri Lanka would rue the fact that they missed out on a golden chance as they could have knocked Australia out of the tournament.

Australia on the other hand would be quite relieved as the team rediscovered its mojo and once again is looking dangerous. Skipper Aaron Finch would be mightily pleased as Marcus Stoinis regained his form. Australia would be aware that the team still has a long way to go in the tournament as they have to keep winning the matches.
