Australian Cricket Team registered a convincing victory against Ireland. The Defending Champions won the match by 42 runs as it was a collective effort from the bowlers. Ireland now is out of the tournament and now would be hoping to play for pride.
Ireland had won the toss and surprisingly chose to bowl first. Australia was dealt with a huge blow as the dashing David Warner was dismissed in the power-play overs as the left-handed batter is unable to get a big score. This time, the Skipper Aaron Finch stood up and played a captain’s knock of 63 runs in 44 balls as Australia scored 179-5.
Australia Bowlers On Fire
Ireland was rocked early by the Aussies as they lost 5 wickets for 49 runs in the power-play overs. Mitchell Starc bowled two batters and was looking ominous. There were high expectations from Stirling and Balbirnie to bat deep but poor shot selection cost them.
Not a single batter apart from Lorcan Tucker scored 30-odd runs as Tucker was fighting a lone battle. The right-handed batter was quite aggressive in his approach as he scored unbeaten 71 runs in 48 balls. The team was bundled out for 137 runs in 18.1 overs.
The decision to give Maxwell 2nd over proved quite decisive as Maxwell took 2 key wickets of Balbirnie and Tector. Australian bowlers hunted in a pack as they never allowed any partnership to get bigger.
The team would be worried about the figures of Mitchell Starc as the left-arm speedster gave away 43 runs in his 4-over spell where he took 2 wickets. The pacer was easily taken to the cleaners where the Skipper Aaron Finch and Head Coach Andrew McDonald would be bothered as he is one of the key bowlers.
Due to this victory, Australia now has 5 points with an NRR of -0.304 and is at the No.2 position in Group 1. Their next encounter is against Afghanistan on 5th November where they would be hoping for a similar victory. Ireland now has 3 points from 4 matches with an NRR of -1.544. Their next opponent is New Zealand which is a stern test for them.
