ICC T20 World Cup 2022: Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid Have Big Responsibility To Come Up With The Best Combination – Parthiv Patel

Former India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel has said that the captain-coach duo of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid will have a huge responsibility to come up with the best possible team combination for the forthcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which will be played in Australia in October-November.

India National Cricket Team won the inaugural edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007 under the leadership of MS Dhoni and since then they have failed to capture the title. In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE, India failed to make it to the semi-finals after facing back-to-back defeats in the first two games of the tournament.

Meanwhile, the 37-year-old has said that the right team combination will determine India’s success in the marquee tournament. He added that the defending champions Australia National Cricket Team are strong contenders to win the title and they would give a tough competition to the India National Cricket Team.

“The selection of the right team will determine the result for India. Rohit Sharma, and Rahul Dravid have a big responsibility to come up with the best combination for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” said Patel in an audio chatroom session of ‘CricChat Powered by Parimatch’ on the Sharechat app.

“Australia could give a tough competition to India since the team seems strong. Even England and South Africa have improved their games as compared to the last World Cup, but Australia looks like a much stronger contender,” he added.

Former wicketkeeper-batsman was further asked about the frequent changes made by the management to the opening department. Notably, India opened with Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant in the two T20Is against England in the absence of KL Rahul and the West Indies T20I series Suryakumar Yadav has been promoted to open the innings alongside Rohit.

“There is no doubt that the team is in an experimental phase due to fitness issues that the players are facing,” he said.

Parthiv Patel, who is the talent scout of Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), said that the young Tilak Varma is his favourite young talent in India.

He added that the 19-year-old performed really well for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 even though the team finished at the last position on the points table. He asserted:

“One uncapped player that has me excited is Tilak Verma. He batted really well in the Tata IPL 2022, even when his team was not in the best condition.”

The 37-year-old also talked about the current Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President and former India National Cricket Team captain Sourav Ganguly and said that he had great man-management skills. He said:

“If our day wasn’t going too well, or the game did not go well, he used to make everyone feel good. He always used to carry Marigold biscuits along with him and handed them out to everybody.”
