Tensions have risen between the current and former coaches of the Delhi Capitals (DC) amid the IPL 2026 season. Former Team India captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth heavily criticised the head coach of DC, Hemang Badani, for commenting unnecessarily on the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming.
Multiple posts across the social media platforms, quoting Srikkanth's words on Badani. Interestingly, one of the posts on social media platforms was 'liked' by the former England cricket player Kevin Pietersen, who was a part of DC's coaching set-up in the previous season of the Indian Premier League. Pietersen left the franchise ahead of IPL 2026 but remains in India to take over the commentary duties in the league.
War of words initiated by the Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani
A war of words has erupted because of the Delhi Capitals' head coach's controversial comments targeting the CSK head coach. Badani claimed that CSK and Fleming claimed 5 IPL titles only because MS Dhoni was with them. These kinds of comments directly raised questions against the opposing team and the credibility of their head coach, which is not acceptable in modern-day cricket, where everyone is expected to maintain professional behaviour.
“If Fleming is such a big coach, why hasn't he won anywhere else apart from the IPL?" Badani had said in the past, pointing to Fleming's stints in the SA20, The Hundred, and the Big Bash League,” Hemang Badani said during a press conference.
CSK is winning because of Dhoni. Dhoni is the kingpin... if someone says Fleming is a good coach, I won't agree to it,” he added further.
Kris Srikkanth blasted the DC coach
Kris Srikkanth, a former Team India captain, quickly reacted by saying that Hemang Badani has achieved nothing or anything special as a coach. Srikkanth suggests that the Delhi Capitals head coach should oil his own machine and avoid talking about others.
"On top of all this, Hemang Badani went after Stephen Fleming. Hey Hemang. First, take care of yourself before talking about others. I have always said this: 'In life, don't talk too much. He spoke too much. Now, he has to shut up and watch stuff happening," Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
"Everybody is bringing this up and slamming him. Why talk about others? You should have been mindful of your job. Who are you to say Stephen Fleming won only because of MS Dhoni? What have you done? Anything special? Nothing,” he further told in protest of Badani’s comments.

Delhi Capitals in a tricky position in the IPL 2026 points table
Under the coaching of Hemang Badani, the Delhi Capitals, who missed a play-offs spot in the previous season, are having a challenging situation in the ongoing Indian Premier League, mostly because of a lack of consistency and tactical faults.
In their previous 5 fixtures, Delhi has managed to win only one game and has been defeated in four games. Currently, they are ranked seventh in the IPL 2026 points table with 6 points from 3 wins after featuring in 8 games.
