While the BCCI is yet to give an update on Jasprit Bumrah’s injury status, board president Sourav Ganguly has delivered a positive update about the fast-bowler. On Thursday (September 29), several reports stated that the India pace spearhead is set to miss the upcoming T20 World Cup due to a back injury.

Later, the BCCI confirmed that the fast-bowler is out of the ongoing T20I series against South Africa while naming Mohammed Siraj as the replacement. The BCCI, however, did not give any update on Bumrah’s chances of playing in the World Cup next month.

Last week, Jasprit Bumrah had made a return to international cricket after a two-month injury lay-off. He played a couple of T20Is against Australia before breaking down again. And as the right-arm pacer is working on his recovery, Ganguly has confirmed that the bowler is still in contention to play the T20 World Cup.

Speaking to Xtra Time Digital channel in Kolkata, the BCCI chief stated that Jasprit Bumrah is still not out of the World Cup. The former India skipper also said that he was keeping his “fingers crossed” and that a final decision could be taken in the “next two or three days”.

“Let’s see Bumrah is not out of the World Cup yet. Let’s see what happens. Fingers crossed,” Ganguly said.

“I don’t know, we will find out in the next two or three days. We have our fingers crossed. Don’t rule him out yet,” Ganguly added.

Earlier in the day, the BCCI had stated that Bumrah had “sustained” a back injury and was being monitored by their medical team at the NCA. The BCCI did not provide much details regarding the injury but reports have suggested that it is a stress-related injury in his back.

Recently, Bumrah missed the Asia Cup due to a back issue. The fast-bowler is in a race against time to be fit for the T20 World Cup. The Indian team will be departing for Australia on October 6 to prepare for the T20 World Cup. India will open their campaign against Pakistan on October 23.
