ICC T20 World Cup 2022: Sri Lanka Announce 15-member Squad For The Marquee Tournament

On Friday, September 16, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced a 15-member squad of the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which is scheduled to be played in October-November in Australia.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which is the eighth edition of the multi-nation tournament, is scheduled to commence on October 16 with the group stage games. The Super 12 round will commence on October 22 and the final is set to take place on November 13 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Meanwhile, the Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team recently defeated Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team by 23 runs in the final of the Asia Cup 2022 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium to win their 6th Asia Cup championship.

The Dasun Shanaka-led side started off the tournament on a poor note by facing a defeat against Afghanistan in the group stage round. However, after that, they went on to win all the games to clinch the title.

Notably, Sri Lanka National Cricket Team have not automatically qualified for the Super 12 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 and they will have to go through the group stage round to make it to the Super 12s.

The Lankan Lions are placed in Group A of the marquee tournament along with Namibia National Cricket Team, United Arab Emirates National Cricket Team and the Netherlands National Cricket Team. They will start their tournament with the battle against Namibia on Sunday, October 16, at the GMHBA Stadium, South Geelong, Victoria.

“The Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee selected the following squad to take part in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. The Honorable Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Roshan Ranasinghe, gave his approval for the squad,” Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said in an official media release on Friday, September 16.
